How to Read Health Status

CrystalDiskInfo (水晶磁盘信息) uses a color-coded system to indicate drive health at a glance. Here is what each color means:

  • Blue (Good): The drive is healthy. No critical errors have been detected.
  • Yellow (Caution): The drive has unstable sectors or is nearing its end of life. Back up data immediately.
  • Red (Bad): The drive has failed or is about to fail. Data loss is imminent.
  • Gray (Unknown): S.M.A.R.T. data could not be retrieved. Check your controller or cables.

Critical S.M.A.R.T. Attributes

Pay close attention to these specific ID numbers. If the "Raw Values" for these are non-zero, your drive may be failing.

ID 05: Reallocated Sectors Count

Count of sectors that failed and were remapped to a reserved area. An increasing count indicates physical degradation.

ID C5: Current Pending Sector Count

Count of unstable sectors waiting to be remapped. If these sectors are successfully written to later, the count decreases. If not, they become reallocated.

ID C6: Uncorrectable Sector Count

The total number of uncorrectable errors when reading/writing a sector. A critical indicator of surface damage.

Setting Up Email Alerts

  1. Go to Function > Alert 功能 > E-mail Settings.
  2. Enter your SMTP server details (e.g., for Gmail: smtp.gmail.com, Port 587).
  3. Enter your email address in the "To" and "From" fields.
  4. Click Test E-mail to verify the connection.
  5. Once verified, enable the alert by checking Function > Alert 功能 > Send E-mail.

Note: For Gmail, you may need to use an "App Password" if you have 2-Factor Authentication enabled.

Reducing Drive Noise

If your HDD is making loud clicking or seeking noises, you can use Automatic Acoustic Management (AAM) to quiet it down.

  1. Go to Function > Advanced Feature > AAM/APM Control.
  2. Select the target disk from the dropdown menu.
  3. Locate the AAM slider.
  4. Slide it to the left (towards Silent / FEh) to reduce noise (this may slightly reduce performance).
  5. Click Enable to apply the changes.
